Table of Contents: Masthead StickyAmazon Prime Day 2020 will take place on October 13 and 14, and the annual shopping event is bringing a brand-new batch of Kindle deals.
Kindle is one of Amazon’s flagship products and multiple Kindle devices have topped our list of the best ereaders. Even as the retail giant expands into more advanced tablets and streaming devices, the Kindle remains a reliable cornerstone of the Amazon device family with a battery that lasts for weeks and a reading experience that is second to none.
While the Kindle family now includes four different ereaders, Amazon has announced Prime Day 2020 sales for just two of them. The Kindle Paperwhite will see a $50 discount to $79.99, while the Kindle Kids Edition will be discounted $35 to $74.99. Last year also included moderate price drops for the Kindle Oasis and standard Kindle, so don’t be surprised if more Kindle deals appear on Prime Day.
We’ll be regularly updating this post as more Kindle deals show up during Amazon Prime Day, so be sure to check back. We’ll be keeping tabs on all the best Prime Day tech deals beyond just Kindles too.
Early Prime Day Kindle deals
Amazon has confirmed that the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Kids Edition will be on sale during Prime Day but those discounts aren’t live just yet. However, Prime members can save $20 on the Kindle Paperwhite Essential bundle, and $15 on the Kindle Kids Edition Essential bundle right now. The Paperwhite essential bundle adds a fabric cover and a power adapter for charging; while the Kindle Kids Edition Essential Bundle comes with a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+ and a charger.

Readers can also get a $5 ebook credit if they spend $20 or more on ebooks at Amazon, and Prime members can claim two free Kindle ebooks from a select list before October 31.
Amazon is also offering two free months of Kindle Unlimited to new subscribers, or Prime members can get three free months if they purchase a six-month Kindle Unlimited subscription for $30; a 50% discount on the standard price.

When is Prime Day?
Amazon Prime Day 2020 will take place on October 13 and 14, but some deals are already live. Retailers will continue to post new deals in the lead-up to Prime Day, and Business Insider will be covering them all on our Prime Day hub.
Prime Day deals are exclusive to Amazon Prime subscribers, so you’ll need to sign up to get these Kindle discounts. Amazon Prime normally costs $13 per month or $120 per year, but new users can get their first 30 days of Prime with full benefits, for free.

What Prime Day Kindle deals to expect?
Amazon has confirmed that the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Kids Edition will be on sale during Amazon Prime Day. Kindle Paperwhite is Kindle’s midrange ereader, offering a backlight and water resistance alongside the long-lasting battery life and glare-free display of the standard Kindle. Kindle Paperwhite will be on sale for $79 during Prime Day 2020, a discount of $50 from its usual $129 price tag.
The Kindle Kids edition is designed with a sturdy case to prevent damage and comes with a two-year replacement warranty that covers any issues you might have, including drops and spills. For Prime Day 2020 the Kindle Kids Edition will cost $75, a $35 price decrease from $110.
The Kindle Kids edition looks nearly identical to the standard Kindle outside of its colorful case, standing 6.7-inches high. Kindle Kids Edition also comes with one free year of Amazon Kids+, a reading service that makes hundreds of children’s books available on Kindle.

What Kindle deals did we see on Amazon Prime Day last year?
Last year’s Prime Day saw slight discounts on all four Kindle products, including the Kindle Oasis and standard Kindle. While only two devices have been confirmed to be on sale this year, don’t be surprised if we see discounts across the whole Kindle family once the Prime Day 2020 sales are all live.

Kindle, $59.99 on Prime Day last year, currently $89.99
Kindle Kids Edition, $79.99 on Prime Day last year, currently $109.99
Kindle Paperwhite, $84.99 on Prime Day last year, currently $129.99
Kindle Oasis, $179.99 on Prime Day last year, currently $249.99

How to shop for a Kindle or an ereader
When shopping for the best Kindle or ereader, start by figuring out how frequently you plan to use it, and where. If you only plan to use your Kindle casually at home, you might not need to pay more for the Paperwhite’s extra features like backlighting and water resistance.
Personally, I would always recommend buying your Kindle without ads for $20 more; the savings feel good at purchase but the long-term annoyance of uncontrollable ads on your home screen is a steep price to pay.
If you don’t spend a ton of time reading already, you may want to download the free Kindle app and try downloading a few ebooks to read on your phone or another device to see how comfortable you are. You may realize you’re just fine without a dedicated reading device, or maybe you want a bigger color screen for comic books and magazines, like the Fire HD 10 tablet.
Kindle Unlimited offers a ton of magazines and ebooks at a tempting price, but think about whether you’ll have time to dig into all of that material before you invest in the subscription.
Also, keep in mind that Kindle is Amazon’s brand of ereader, but it’s not the only one out there. For example, Kobo earned top marks in our reviews with its large screen and water-resistant models.
